Bologna Arcades Due to an influx of students, Bologna's landowners extended the upper levels of their buildings to make more room for renters. The extra space is supported by more than 37 km (23 mi) of arcades - arched, covered walkways supported by rows of pillars. Window-shopping is a pleasure in any weather.
