Construction on this ancient church was begun in 1099, and is dedicated to the patron saint of the city, San Germiniano. A truly Romanesque cathedral, the outside was decorated by the 12th century sculptor, Wiligelmo, who depicted rural scenes as well as events from the Bible. Much of his work is currently being preserved in the adjacent museum, which joins the church on its north side.
