Cathedral of San Pietro
This is Bologna's main church and its spiritual centre. The inside was ornately frescoed after the church was radically restored in the 17th century. The original building dates back to the year 1000, but almost nothing from that construction remained after the renovations.

Ferrara Cathedral
The marble facade of Ferrara's cathedral requires a long and hard look, as there is enough detail for a feature-length film. The uppermost part depicts an interpretation of the final judgement, and the graphic differences between heaven and hell.
